Living To Serve Him
There’s more to discipleship than just Sunday. Through a range of ministry opportunities, our parishioners have found callings beyond traditional worship.
Volunteer
One of the many volunteer opportunities at Vernon is “Quilts! Quilts!” whose members are devoted to creating quilts for others to keep them wrapped in love and warmth throughout the winter. Quilters meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 9 am to 12 pm, September through May. No need to know how to sew. We will show you what needs to be done. Come when you can, leave when you must. Do not have time? How about a donation such as yarn, sewing supplies (thread, needles, etc.) material of any kind (mattress pads, sheets, blankets, pillow cases, curtains, etc.). Hope to see you soon.
Vernon is always looking for volunteers to help with special events, working the coffee station, hospitality, helping in the kitchen, and more. For more information about how you can serve, please contact our church office at office@vernon-elca.org or call 262-363-7131.
Our Caring Hearts and Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry has provided comfort to those along their journey toward God. For centuries, prayer shawls have been symbolic of an unconditionally loving God as they wrap people in comfort and love. Our members have created dozens of prayer shawls, and still keep their hands busy knitting and crocheting to continue to provide comfort to others.
Participation
Among the ministry opportunities at Vernon is the Seniors Ministry. “Young at Heart” is dedicated to sharing God’s love through love, compassion, fellowship, activities and prayer. This group meets monthly for crafts, lunch bunch, movies, cards and games.
Vernon also offers a Bible Study Group, which meets monthly from September through May. A light lunch of soup, bread and dessert is served. Sign up on the Seniors board to bring a dish to pass.
