God’s Love; Receive, Be Changed and Share
September 28, 2017
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, fellow members of Vernon,
“Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Phil. 1:2)
Many of you are aware of conflict and confusion that occurred during my sabbatical absence this summer.
Vernon’s interim pastor, Pr. Mark Thompson, sent a letter to all members voicing his concern about violation of constitutional process at a July council meeting, and there was confusion concerning stewardship aired during the announcements at a worship service.
The Congregational Council and I have agreed to a strategy by which we can evaluate what brought us to this point, learn from it and find a way to move forward in Christ.
We are asking Bishop Paul Erickson to empanel three individuals (two ordained and one lay) who are part of The Consultation Committee, elected in Synod Assembly.
This panel’s purpose will be to listen carefully to leadership and members and to make impartial observations and recommendations for moving ahead. They will provide helpful feed-back on what happened this summer, as well as possible underlying issues which have led us to this point.
You will be made aware of opportunities for your participation, which I encourage.
I invite each of us to pray for Jesus’ presence and peace in the days ahead.
Pastor Molly Doreza, Lead Pastor of your Vernon
